Why We’re Needed
The Kansas City Metropolitan area is facing a growing homeless population. In January of 2019, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) estimated a total of 2,381 people were experiencing homelessness on any given day. Furthermore, in some areas of the KC Metro, anywhere from 1 in 4 to 1 out of 10 residential properties are unoccupied. These properties, instead of providing refuge to those who need it most, cost taxpayers millions of dollars in city costs each year and unfortunately are a significant source of vandalism and violent crime. In Kansas City, Missouri’s urban core, some homes that are currently inhabited feature environments that are considered largely unlivable. This dynamic is intolerable and affects underprivileged communities across the KC Metro. Too many residents in our city, our neighbors, are being forced to choose food, medicine, and other basic needs over home repairs and mortgage payments.
Our Goals:
Renovate
Countless families throughout the Kansas City Metro area are forced to live in residential homes that would otherwise be deemed uninhabitable. Unfortunately, repairs and maintenance are often times just not in the budget, and citizens must choose food, medicine, and other basic human needs instead. ReNew KC Neighborhoods and its team of volunteers will launch a large scale renovation effort that strategically targets and provides aid to communities in the most need to thoughtfully improve the safety and standard of living conditions in these areas.
Restore
Beyond initial renovations of homes in the area, ReNew KC Neighborhoods will work in other ways to restore the housing conditions in underdeveloped regions of the city. In our effort to strategically decrease homelessness in the KC Metro, our organization’s next steps are to improve larger scale communities and neighborhoods. We will combine and leverage our experience in home renovation, construction, and development to improve these disproportionately impoverished communities and promote a safe and strong environment for future growth of these areas.
Renew
Together with our team of volunteers and donors, ReNew KC Neighborhoods’ ultimate goal and mission is to create and renew entire neighborhoods to decrease homelessness and sub-standard living throughout the KC Metro. Our organization will design, develop and construct specifically designed smart-home communities and residential areas so that groups such as veterans, the elderly, and otherwise unsheltered people can be provided with a livable and safe place for shelter. ReNew KC Neighborhoods is more than just a charitable organization, it is a beacon of hope for our neighbors most in need.
